Witham Carnival Association - HomeWitham Carnival is organised and run by the Witham Carnival Association (WCA), all of whom give their time and knowledge freely as volunteers. Witham Carnival is always held on the second saturday in July. The 2009 procession will commence at 1:45 PM from Witham Town Football Club and make its way via Spinks Lane to the Town Centre before turning into the Grove and then onto the Maldon Road, finishing in Recreation Park. In the park will be Presland's Fair and a host of arena events. These tradtionally have included re-enactments, dog shows, martial arts displays, majorettes, Punch and Judy, clowns, bands, comical entertainment and much more. Local organisations have fundraising or advertising stalls throughout the park. The carnival in 2005 was nominated for the Queen's Award for Voluntary Services. During the week leading up to Carnival Day, the Mayor of Witham will judge the window displays entered by local shopkeepers in keeping with the Carnival 2009 theme , which is "WOODLAND MAGIC". The Carnival Queen and Princesses represent Witham throughout the year by attending functions in the town and surrounding areas, taking part in other Carnivals and entering competitions. This is an area of great pride, for which we have several trophies to show off for our endeavours. Witham is one of the few Carnivals the have the outgoing Queen and Court and the newly crowned Queen and Court in the Carnival procession. The WCA wish to thank a number of local organisations, for without their help, the annual carnival would be a much less enjoyable day. Specifically, The White Hart, for (1) their generous donation toward our new float, and (2) allowing our meetings to take place on their premises, Crofters for their donation towards our new float, Gamma Engineering for the metalwork required to design our float, and likewise Mr Plastic for the materials we needed to complete the work.  |
